Family Finding Fire is a blog about my family’s journey to financial independence.

We will have a lot of fun information here to help you achieve FIRE – Financial Independence Retire Early. Please feel free to browse through the Financial Journey and For the Love of Travel tabs to learn more about different methods to getting to financial independence sooner rather than later.

About Me

Hello!! My name is Faith, and I am the primary author of this site. I am a happily married mom to 3 young children. When I originally came up with the idea for this blog, my children were 3 years younger. You can say that life just got hectic and busy with the kids’ activities/my work/my husband’s job and balancing/surviving in a world that was post-COVID became all-consuming. The truth is, I sort of lost the drive to make this blog a reality. I allowed myself to get stuck in the day-to-day and get distracted/discouraged from working on this website.

My original intent for this blog was to share our journey to financial freedom, to give some tips on travel hacking and other life hacks. After a 3 year span of “brainstorming”, the focus of this website has shifted somewhat. Instead of just sharing our experiences, we really want to focus on educating others towards their financial journey. We live in a society where financial education is not taught in schools and is rarely discussed within the family. Everything I learned about finances occurred after I was an adult, after highschool, after college…until I was in my 30’s. For context, I’m 37 years old.

To give you some background, I am a pharmacist and my husband is transitioning from a career in biotech to one as a financial success coach (more on his new role later). When I graduated back in 2013, I ended up with over $150,000 in student loan debt and had a toddler and a baby on the way. While we never had credit card debt to worry about, we had this massive 6 figure loan over our heads, childcare, and a hefty mortgage to pay on a monthly basis.

Back in Fall 2018, we took the infamous Dave Ramsey course on money management. While his baby steps were things that may seem like common sense, it was truly eye opening. As we got a better handle on our finances, we started to research what this whole FIRE movement was about. For those of you who are new to the FIRE movement, it stands for Financial Independence Retire Early. The basic concept is that one can amass enough money to “retire” early before the age of say 65, with some retiring in their 20’s and 30’s. When I first heard of this, I said a resounding “YES!!!” I mean, who wouldn’t want the option to leave their W2 jobs and spend more time doing things that had more value to them, like spending more time with family, starting their own business, or TRAVELLING.

So, zoom forward to now, to the year of 2022. We now have 3 adorable and energetic not-so-little tykes. We did some financial adjusting and paid off my student loan. We have a small portfolio of real estate (of which we hope to continue to grow and expand) and we joined a financial coaching organization to keep us focused on our goals: to be able to leave the W2 jobs in 3 years time….and maybe get a puppy.

We hope you will join us on this journey, to be open to this very different concept of obtaining wealth and educate yourself on the variety of financial options available to you. And maybe, together we can make both our families financially independent sooner rather than later. I have faith we can accomplish these goals.
